The bad news is that, no matter how well you do your research, it’s still possible to get unlucky.
Again, the good news is that, even if you do get unlucky and have a bad Airbnb experience, it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. You can do things to make sure that the next time you use Airbnb, it goes much more smoothly.
ALWAYS CONTACT YOUR HOST
If you’ve lost your key, locked yourself out, or something breaks, always try to contact your host directly. They should be willing to meet you at their place for a quick fix and might even have an extra set of keys for you. Also, if something goes wrong with another guest (in the case of a shared Airbnb), you can contact your host, and they’ll be able to help resolve the situation.
CONTACT AIRBNB WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER CHECKING IN FOR A FULL REFUND
Be sure to contact Airbnb within 24 hours of checking in for a full refund. If you’re not happy with your stay or something goes wrong, contact Airbnb customer service within 24 hours of checking in to be rebooked or get a full refund.
TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING
When you contact Airbnb about an issue with your place, they need to be able to see proof. Take photos of everything. It’s unnecessary to make a video as I did, but the messaging system didn’t allow for a video to be uploaded.

Customer support at Airbnb is available via their website, Facebook Messenger, email, and phone. Calling is my favorite way to contact them – they have a US-based team who are much more helpful than the other channels.

When paying for your Airbnb stay, always use a credit card and check your card statement and receipts after your trip for any unauthorized charges. Always meet in person for check-ins with a friend or family member, never alone.
